Week 4 on X

This week, I spent some time on my own twitter profile, following researchers, specifically those studying canines. I have followed quite a few animal researchers who help dogs with disabilities assimilate back into domestic life. While reposting one of my classmate's, research, I read an interesting article on how adding animal crossings to freeways could save animals and people. Read it here. It seems like a pretty straightforward idea that could save quite a few lives. I think its interesting because it is a simple solution to something that can bring so much tragedy.

I was researching to find an article to publish for my thread and came across an article that shares some research on how dogs can understand nouns. They can understand between 25-215, which is really incredible if you think about it! Research also states that this development in the species of dogs most likely developed before their domestication, which is really interesting. This means that other mammals may also share in this trait! Imagine other mammals understanding nouns! You can find the link to the article here, along with a really cute picture of a puppy. I also posted a couple articles about how animals are a lot more intelligent than we thought! Giraffes can use statistical reasoning, fish can regenerate their damaged heart tissue, what can't animals do!

I also took a look at some of my classmates' Wix sites! I really enjoyed seeing other people's progress in the class and looking at their themes for their portfolios. I read some interesting research tidbits about a plant based diet and the importance of preserving wildlife to our environment. On Wix, I responded to Ashley Segat, Alicia Kim, and Nicole Murphy. All of their sites were great, but I really enjoyed Ashley's posts. They were very descriptive of challenges she faced finding trustworthy researchers on X, and shared a little on an NYU article about animal testing, which I would love to know more about.
