The final stretch! This week on X, I posted pieces of my advocacy project and a broader range of knowledge that I gained over this course. I shared information about selective dog breeding, such as the results on dogs and how you as an individual can fight against it. I tweeted about the Humane Society of the United States and RSPCA, two organizations that fight for the better treatment of animals. I also posted about PETA's cruelty free certification, and what it means for a business to be cruelty free. I showed my followers the logo to look for while shopping and a post from PETA showcasing popular brands that are certified cruelty free. I also posted about legislation being pushed to stop harmful selective breeding, such as the Puppy Protection Act, and the city of Los Angeles' efforts to reduce the number of breeding licesnses distributy city wide.
I posted about other knowlege I gained throughout the course, such as how a peer review can benefit me and my peer, and allowed me to look at my own writing from a new perspective. I learned how to analyze scientific articles and write in scicomm style, which has made reading scientific articles much more accessible for me.
Finally, I did a little web surfing on X to find professionals and organizations in my own area of study. I am a Business Economics major, so I followed accounts like the Wall Street Journal Real Time Economics, Women in Economics at UCLA, Financial Times, and Accounting Today. Each of these accounts post current news about economics and accounting, which help me to stay up to date on relevant news. Economics is all about studying the economic impacts of people and the various markets, so staying updated is vital to having a stronger understanding of the subject as a whole. Accounting principles are also always changing and adapting to our fast-paced society, so receiving regular updates is important to staying informed.
I have had such a great experience on X in this class, and I am excited to keep it as a tool, alongside other sources, to stay up to date on issues I leanred about in this class, and hopefully more that I learn later on.
